Industry: Automotive Manufacturing

Business Domain: Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) & Digital Engineering

Core Systems: Teamcenter PLM, Siemens NX CAD, Active Workspace Client

Infrastructure Platform: Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Overview

As engineering data volumes and system complexity increased, the organization initiated a strategic digital transformation to modernize its PLM landscape. The objective was to upgrade the Teamcenter–NX ecosystem, transition legacy infrastructure to Red Hat Linux, and deploy Active Workspace Client (AWC) to improve performance, accessibility, and reliability across global engineering teams.

Business Challenges

  • Legacy Infrastructure: Dependence on aging HP Unix systems limited scalability and performance.
  • Global Data Synchronization: Inconsistent CAD-EBOM synchronization across multiple sites impacted collaboration.
  • Performance Bottlenecks: Large car assembly models caused excessive load times and reduced design efficiency.
  • System Reliability Risks: Lack of High Availability (HA) for critical components such as FMS, Pool Manager, and License Servers increased downtime risk.

Solution Delivered

A comprehensive modernization and upgrade roadmap was executed to address these challenges:

  • PLM & CAD Upgrades:
Upgraded Teamcenter from 10.1.2 to 11.3 and NX from 9 to 11 with zero business disruption.
  • Infrastructure Modernization:
Migrated hardware and software from HP Unix to Red Hat Linux, including volume migration and FMS Master/Slave configuration.
  • High Availability Architecture:
Implemented HA for Pool Manager, License Servers, and operating systems, ensuring continuous production availability.
  • Advanced Visualization:
Deployed Massive Model Visualization (MMV) with Visualization Data Server Manager to efficiently handle large assemblies within AWC.
  • Active Workspace Deployment:
Rolled out Active Workspace Client with custom Digital Mock-up reporting for improved usability and management visibility.

Results & Business Impact

  • Maximum System Uptime: Achieved high availability for all critical production components.
  • Faster Assembly Load Times: Significant performance improvement through MMV optimization.
  • Improved Global Collaboration: Seamless CAD-EBOM synchronization across distributed engineering teams.
  • Enhanced User Experience: Increased adoption and visibility through Active Workspace Client.
  • Future-Ready Platform: A scalable Red Hat Linux–based environment supporting future engineering growth.
